Drive to Vertical

Well....an awful lot has been going on these past few weeks.  We have decided to change our name from Drive Church to Vertical Church.  We even have a new website.... www.verticalchurchboise.com

But...along with a new name, we have really been examining ourselves and the ministry we have.  We have been asking questions.  Questions like, "why do we do things the way we do things?"  In my opinion these are some of the best questions you can ask.  Even a new, hip church can get bogged down in "how we've done it before."  So...join me in prayerful mediation as I consider the process of church and how we might tweak it so that we can be even more effective in reaching a lost and unsaved world.

A lot has changed in a little time...

Wow.  The last few weeks have flown by.  Matter of fact, I've been so busy, I had forgotten all about this blog!  So...I am now in Boise, Idaho pastoring Drive Church.  It's an amazing church, an amazing group of people, and I am so excited to be here.  Add to that the fact that Boise is an awesome city AND it's back home in the Northwest...well...things just couldn't be much better.

Tomorrow I will be preaching a sermon called, "Healing the Hurt."  There's a lot of hurt going around.  Both in my life and the lives of those around me.  I know that there's been a lot of hurt at my church.  There always is when there is a time of transition.  So tomorrow, we are going to look at a guy named Jairus.  He was experiencing a lot of hurt when he came to Jesus.  Of course, when Jesus was here on earth, being healed from hurt was a lot more instantaneous.  But that's the thing...Jesus IS still here, and He still wants to heal us from our hurts.  So....come to Drive Church 1-7-2012 @ 6PM to learn with us, how Jesus can still heal us from our hurts.

Waiting for the world to change

I'm sitting here in my recliner right now, waiting for word from a Church I very much hope to pastor.

I feel God's call and direction, does that mean they will too?  Time will tell, but I am confident in the Lord that He has a new place for me, a new ministry to engage, and a new family to love.

As I look at the church I've pastored now for the last two years, a lot of things come to mind.  There are many people here I love dearly.  Many people who have challenged me, and in many ways shown me what a mature Christian looks like.  It has been a gift from God, and an awesome experience.

So, is a new phase of ministry starting?  I hope and pray so.  But even if it doesn't...God has a plan, and ultimately, I will trust in Him and His plan, and adjust mine accordingly!

In Christ,

-Pastor Matt
